An Evening with Marlene Dietrich

“An Evening with Marlene Dietrich” is an hour-long musical theatre piece about the life and career of an icon who dominated the world stage from 1930-1974.  Born in 1901 Marlene became a Hollywood star in the 1930’s and then sang for the Allies on the front line during World War II.  This was followed by a long career as a cabaret artist, touring the world, with her arranger and friend Burt Bacharach.  Working well into her 70’s she then retreated to her apartment in Paris, where she remained for the last 12 years of her life.

Below a few comments about the show:

We took a group to a ‘Marlene Dietrich Cabaret’ show in Broadstairs last night. There were three ladies among our group that hadn’t met before and it was an absolute delight to see them chatting and laughing across the table. Each has memory loss and all were confused in their speech but somehow they interacted, joked and held a good conversation. They all live in residential homes, where people barely speak to each other, so you can imagine how much they enjoyed their evening out. We sang Marlene Dietrich songs in the car on the way back and when I dropped them off home, each said “When is our next night out?”. I’d say that outing was a big success!-

“Offers superbly executed songs and a beautifully measured, paced performance which draws its audience in and leaves you with a sense of having found out a great deal about this iconic star.” Ramsgate Arts

“I think this is a charming, engaging piece of theatre. Anette captures the essence of Dietrich without turning to pastiche and uses a simple format which includes audience interaction, storytelling and of course the performance of some iconic songs ( which she does very well) to create an insightful entertainment.”
